The Pines School Store has officially become a reality, bringing a long-awaited vision to the heart of the school day. Originally inspired several years ago by the Shared Decision Making Team (SDMT) and teacher Mrs. Lewkovich, the store successfully launched this past February. It now operates one week each month, transforming the cafetorium into a vibrant marketplace from 9:00 to 9:20 a.m.
To create a focused and enjoyable experience, each grade level is assigned a specific shopping day during the week. The store is designed to be accessible to all students, with every item priced under $1.00. Young shoppers can choose from a variety of fun items, including bookmarks, smencils, mini highlighters, play skateboards, and the ever-popular mystery ducks—some costing as little as $0.25.
Beyond the excitement of new treasures, the school store serves as a hands-on learning experience. Students practice managing small budgets, reinforcing essential math skills while gaining real-world experience with money and decision-making. The initiative also encourages mentorship within the school community. On Kindergarten and 1st-grade shopping days, 5th-grade volunteers assist younger students in counting their totals and making selections.
This blend of education, leadership, and school spirit has quickly made the Pines School Store a monthly highlight, enriching the experience for students across the entire school community.
