Future Corps at The Arbors

At Pines Elementary School, the Future Corps Club—led by Kindergarten Teacher Ellen Rand and Art Teacher Meg Catapano—continues to nurture meaningful connections between students and the residents of The Arbors at Hauppauge. This year, those relationships have grown even deeper, and the school community is especially grateful for the kindness, enthusiasm, and empathy students have shown each week.

Operating during the fall and winter months, the club’s weekly visits brighten the days of both students and residents. Each gathering is filled with creativity and joy as participants bond through games, crafts, and heartfelt conversations. Carefully planned themes tied to holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving make every visit feel special and intentional.

“The goal of the Future Corps Club is to connect students with local residents,” shared Mrs. Catapano. “This year, we’ve seen those connections grow even stronger. Our students have shown tremendous compassion, and their presence brings so much joy to the residents.”

“These visits are often the highlight of the week for everyone involved,” added Mrs. Rand. “The smiles, laughter, and deepening relationships remind us of the power of simple, heartfelt connections.”

Week after week, students and residents eagerly anticipate their time together. The Future Corps Club continues to showcase the transformative impact of intergenerational connection—and this year, more than ever, the school celebrates the students whose warmth, spirit, and genuine care make these moments so meaningful.
