Pines second graders recently took a journey into the past during their visit to the Long Island Museum’s One-Room Schoolhouse! Dressed for the occasion, students fully immersed themselves in what it was like to be a second grader in the 1800s.
Throughout the day, they practiced penmanship with traditional pen and ink, solved arithmetic problems on slate boards, and even completed chores like sawing wood. They also learned about everyday rural life, including the charming tradition of bringing the family dog to school!
After a morning of hard work, students enjoyed some well-earned recess time on the museum’s beautiful grounds. It was a fun and memorable hands-on learning experience that brought history to life for all!
