Sixth grade art students are putting their creativity and growing technical skills to work as they create an Elements of Art Zine, a mini art book showcasing their understanding of important art concepts and techniques.
As part of the project, students are exploring value by practicing different shading techniques to create highlights and shadows and give their artwork the illusion of three-dimensional form. They are also learning about space and form through one-point perspective, using a vanishing point and perspective lines to create the illusion of depth.
One of the students’ projects involves creating their own city skyline drawings. As they develop their unique cityscapes, students are learning how the size and placement of buildings and other objects can be used to show distance and make elements appear to extend into the background.
To bring their artwork to life with color, students are experimenting with colored pencils and practicing techniques such as layering, blending and mixing colors to create smooth transitions and added detail.
By combining these skills in one creative project, students are building their artistic knowledge while creating unique mini art books that showcase their creativity, craftsmanship and growing confidence as artists.
