Mrs. O'Callaghan Honored with LISTEMELA STEM Star Award

On May 14, Director of Science and Research Dr. Wankmuller presented Mrs. Katherine O'Callaghan, a middle school science teacher, with the Long Island STEM Education Leadership Association (LISTEMELA) STEM Star Award in recognition of her outstanding dedication to STEM education and student achievement.

For the past two decades, Mrs. O'Callaghan has taught Regents-level Earth Science, inspiring generations of students through her passion for science and commitment to excellence in the classroom. She also teaches Science Research 8, the introductory year of the Newton STEM Scholar program, where she helps prepare students for the Middle School Science Fair and regional competitions, including the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovation Challenge and the Long Island Science Congress.

In addition, Mrs. O'Callaghan serves as advisor for the Middle School Pre-College STEM program, offered in partnership with Stony Brook University, providing students with valuable opportunities to explore advanced STEM learning experiences.

Mrs. O'Callaghan’s dedication to fostering curiosity, innovation, and academic achievement continues to make a lasting impact on students and the Hauppauge school community. Congratulations to Mrs. O'Callaghan on this well-deserved recognition.
