The week of April 13–17 marked World Language Celebration Week at Hauppauge Middle School, a vibrant showcase of the many cultures and languages represented within the school community.
Throughout the week, students engaged in a variety of activities designed to celebrate global cultures. Daily advisory messages were shared in Spanish, French, and German, while students also presented on their own cultural backgrounds in class. The week’s events were introduced on Monday by Antonio Andromanakos, followed by advisory messages from Nicole Ward (Spanish) on Tuesday, Amanda Barshay and Olivia Pearl (French) on Wednesday, and Liam Daly (German) on Thursday.
A highlight of the week was International Night, held on Wednesday, April 15, in the middle school cafeteria. The event brought together students and families for an evening filled with delicious food, lively entertainment, and interactive activities that celebrated the rich cultural diversity of the district. New this year, a kindergarten fashion show featured young students proudly showcasing traditional outfits representing their cultures, adding a special and memorable touch to the evening.
Students also participated in a cultural trivia contest on Thursday, answering questions related to Spanish, French, and German traditions. Eighth grader Frankie Iovine earned top honors and was awarded a $25 Amazon gift card. In addition, students showcased their creativity through a poster contest centered on this year’s theme, “Languages Are a Superpower.” Eighth grader Natalie Padilla was named the winner, also receiving a $25 Amazon gift card.
World Language Celebration Week was a joyful and meaningful experience, highlighting the importance of cultural appreciation and the power of language to connect us all.
