Classrooms at Forest Brook, The Pines, and Bretton Woods were filled with excitement as middle school students visited to introduce and promote the German and French language programs. Serving as peer mentors, the students led interactive activities, shared their enthusiasm for learning a new language, and demonstrated how studying a world language can be both fun and approachable.
A highlight of the visits was teaching elementary students about cognates—words that look or sound similar in English and German or French. This engaging lesson allowed younger students to recognize familiar vocabulary, build confidence, and feel successful right away.
These visits offered elementary students an engaging and meaningful preview of their world language options as they prepare to choose which language they will study in middle school, while also showcasing the leadership and passion of our middle school language learners.
