Middle School Career Day

On Tuesday, January 13, Hauppauge Middle School hosted an engaging and impactful Career Day for our eighth grade students, offering them the opportunity to explore a wide range of career pathways and hear firsthand from professionals across many industries.

This incredible event was made possible through the hard work and dedication of our guidance counselors, whose thoughtful planning and coordination ensured a meaningful experience for every student. Their commitment to helping students envision their futures was evident throughout the day.

We are also deeply grateful to the many professionals who volunteered their time to come in and speak with our students. By sharing their experiences, career journeys, and advice, these presenters helped bring learning beyond the classroom and sparked curiosity, inspiration, and thoughtful questions from our eighth graders.

Adding to the excitement, many of our guest speakers brought in tools of their trade, giving students a hands-on look at what their careers involve. From sample clothing in the fashion industry to an entire fire truck from the Hauppauge Fire Department and bucket trucks from PSEG, these real-world examples helped make each career come alive and left a lasting impression on our students.

Students learned about careers spanning business, healthcare, the arts, public service, trades, and more, including:

  • Accounting and Finance, including CPA/Forensic Accounting, Financial Planning, Banking, Business Insurance, and Sales

  • Health and Wellness professions such as Nursing, Pharmacy, and Acupuncture

  • Architecture, Graphic Design, Art, Film, Video, and Theatre

  • Trades and Skilled Labor, including Electricians, Contractors, and a JetBlue aviation mechanic

  • Public Service careers such as Fire and Rescue, Law Enforcement, Judiciary, and Legal professions

  • Journalism, Public Relations, Writing, and Videography

  • Education and Career Pathways through BOCES and college recruitment

  • Nonprofit organizations, including guide and service dog programs

  • Real Estate, Fashion, Athletics, and Library Sciences

Career Day was a valuable experience for our students, reinforcing the importance of goal-setting, exploration, and lifelong learning. We extend our sincere thanks once again to our guidance counselors and all of our guest speakers for making this day such a success and for investing in the future of our students.
