Pre-STEM

Hauppauge Middle School’s Pre-STEM Program offers young innovators an exciting opportunity to expand their STEM skills and take on hands-on challenges throughout their middle school years.

During their December 4 session, students were introduced to electronics using Arduino boards, where they tested circuits, powered LED lights, and programmed them to blink and change speeds.

The program meets several times each year and accepts five students per grade through a competitive application process. Each session is led by two Stony Brook University students who provide guidance, mentorship, and real-world perspectives on STEM pathways.

In the months ahead, participants will continue building on these foundational experiences as they tackle more advanced projects and explore additional areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.
