Creativity Takes Shape in Ceramics and Sculpture!

Students in Ms. McGrath’s ceramics and sculpture classes at Hauppauge High School have been exploring the art of transforming everyday materials into three-dimensional works of art.

In Ceramics 1, students are creating slab relief sculptures, while Ceramics 2 students are designing food-inspired plates. Along the way, they are developing essential hand-building skills, including scoring, slipping and smudging, while experimenting with texture, form and dimension using a variety of ceramic tools.

Meanwhile, students in the Sculpture class are turning ordinary household objects into recognizable sculptures using only cardboard and hot glue. From cameras and rotary telephones to hair straighteners, students are learning how to manipulate simple materials to build form, structure and dimension.

Across all three classes, students are developing their technical skills, exploring creative possibilities and discovering how a variety of materials can be transformed into unique works of art.
