Hauppauge High School senior Tatyana Sumarev has been named a 2026-2027 Long Island Scholar-Artist Merit Award recipient in Media Arts, earning recognition for her achievement in the arts and her commitment to excellence in both academics and creative expression.

Presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) in partnership with Newsday, the Long Island Scholar-Artist Awards are among the region’s most prestigious recognitions for high school artists. The program recognizes 40 high school seniors each year for exceptional achievement in both academics and the arts, with 20 students named Scholar-Artists and 20 receiving Merit Awards across five disciplines: Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts.

This year marks the 20th class of the Long Island Scholar-Artist Awards, bringing the total number of students recognized through the program’s history to 800.

As a Merit Award recipient, Tatyana will be recognized in Newsday as part of a special group feature in June 2027. She will also be celebrated alongside the other honorees at the annual Scholar-Artist Awards ceremony at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in spring 2027. Merit Award recipients will also receive a $150 scholarship supported by the Arts Reach Fund at The New York Community Trust Long Island.

Tatyana’s recognition highlights the talent and dedication she brings to Media Arts while celebrating the balance of academic achievement and artistic expression that defines the Long Island Scholar-Artist program.
