We are excited to share Episode 4 of our Hometown Heroes: Speaker Series, featuring veterans and first responders who help strengthen the Hauppauge community.
In this episode, we are honored to feature Mr. Michael Buscarino and Chief Warrant Officer Five Robert Hansen, both proud Hauppauge parents and dedicated public servants.
Michael Buscarino
Mr. Buscarino has devoted nearly three decades to law enforcement. He began his career with the New York Police Department and has served with the Suffolk County Police Department since 2000, rising through the ranks and holding a variety of leadership roles, including Police Academy Instructor, Sergeant of the Recruit Training Section, and Lieutenant of the Sixth Precinct. He currently serves as a Lieutenant in the Internal Affairs Bureau and also performs patrol duties for the Nissequogue Village Police Department.
Beyond his work in law enforcement, Mr. Buscarino also serves the community as a Trustee on the Hauppauge Board of Education, helping guide policies and decisions that support the success of our students. Mr. and Mrs. Buscarino are proud members of the Hauppauge community and parents of five children who have attended or are currently attending our schools.
Robert Hansen
Chief Warrant Officer Five Robert Hansen has served in the military for more than 28 years. He enlisted in the United States Air Force as a firefighter in 1998 and participated in rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks. Inspired by that experience, he later transitioned to the United States Army through the Warrant Officer Flight Program. After graduating from Army Flight School in 2005, he began his career as an Aeroscout Pilot.
During a 2008 deployment to Iraq with the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Attack Helicopter Battalion, he served as an Aviation Safety Officer and flew more than 500 combat hours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He later served as a Standardization Pilot and Battalion Standardization Officer before concluding his active service. CW5 Hansen lives in Hauppauge with his wife Erin and their two sons, who attend our schools.
Through their conversation with Dr. Murphy, Mr. Buscarino and CW5 Hansen reflected on their careers in public service and shared how dedication, leadership, and a commitment to helping others have guided their paths.
We invite our community to watch this latest installment of Hometown Heroes and hear their inspiring stories of service and leadership.
