In celebration of Halloween, students took part in a fun and flavorful writing activity called “Tricks and Treats of Figurative Language: Sweet Similes and Creepy Metaphors.”
Each student selected two pieces of candy from a festive Halloween bucket and used them as inspiration to craft a figurative language review. Their challenge: describe each treat by creating a simile, a metaphor, and a hyperbole, while also using vivid descriptive imagery to capture the candy’s taste and texture.
From chocolate bars that “melted like sunshine on a warm day” to sour gummies “as fierce as a thunderstorm,” students showed their creativity and deepened their understanding of how figurative language brings writing to life.
