Celebrating Excellence in Science at Hauppauge High School

Hauppauge High School is celebrating some incredible science successes this month!

Congratulations to senior Kelsie Hyde on receiving the STANYS (Science Teachers Association of New York State) Outstanding Senior Science Award! Nominated by AP Chemistry teacher Ms. Heck, Kelsie has pursued an exceptional science track since seventh grade, taking the most rigorous courses offered, including AP Biology, AP Physics and AP Chemistry. This fall, Kelsie will be attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to major in Chemistry. Best of luck, Kelsie!

A big round of applause as well to Physics teacher Briana Becker, recipient of the Long Island STEM Education Leadership Association’s STEM Star Award! Mrs. Becker wears many hats as advisor to both the Science Olympiad team and the Science National Honor Society, as an organizer of the Elementary Science Night and as our Instructional Technology Specialist, leading staff in professional development on cutting-edge tools like AI in science education.

This winter, Mrs. Becker traveled to Albany to provide feedback on the upcoming New York State Science Investigations for the Physical Science: Physics course, which she is excited to teach starting this fall.

Thank you, Mrs. Becker, for being a true beacon of light for your students and coworkers!
