On May 2, students in Hauppaugeās Newton STEM Scholar Program were recognized in two separate ceremonies, celebrating their academic achievements.
In the morning, eighth grade students at Hauppauge Middle School who completed their first year in the program were honored at a pinning ceremony where they received a green apple pin inscribed with Newtonās First Law. Congratulations to eighth graders Alexander Buyansky, Crosby Cadmus, Jake Catania, Aarav Dusad, Mia Green, Vaibhavi Hegde, Nicholas Herbst, Maxwell Kwakye, Bruce Langlois III, Ishaan Maheshkumar, Darwin Marek, Ashlyn Mathew, Shourya Rathi, Bushra Sadiq, and Mihir Sathish Kumar.
Later in the afternoon, Hauppauge High School ninth grade students were honored at a ceremony for completing their second year in the program. These students received a red apple pin that read, āNewtonās Second Law.ā Congratulations to Sophia Brown, Erin Cannata, Micholas Castan Perez, Chloe Coughlin, Dominick DeSiervi, Chris Dileep, Luke Gamble, Samuel Gamble, Joseph Kaydanov, Joseph Le, Matthew Monahan, Rheanna Samuel and Steven Tola.
The Newton STEM Scholar Program, which launched last school year, was created to engage more students in science research and challenge them with rigorous STEM coursework beginning in eighth grade. Students who successfully complete three Regents exams in math and science by the end of tenth grade and remain active in science research will earn the official Newton STEM Scholar Certificate.
Becoming a Newton STEM Scholar not only recognizes students for their academic dedication and pursuit of challenging coursework but also helps them stand out to colleges as highly accomplished learners in STEM.
