Hometown Heroes Speaker Series Episode 2

We are proud to continue our Hometown Heroes: Speaker Series, highlighting the veterans and first responders who are an important part of our Hauppauge community. This series gives students the opportunity to hear firsthand from local heroes whose service and dedication inspire others every day.

For Episode 2, we are honored to feature Frank D’Aversa and Dylan Hever.

Frank D’Aversa: A lifelong Hauppauge resident, Frank brings more than 40 years of military and aviation service. After graduating from Aviation High School, he volunteered for the United States Navy, serving as an aircraft mechanic with deployments aboard the USS Ranger (CV-61) in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and during the Vietnam War. Following his active duty, Frank continued his work in aviation with several airlines and returned to military service through the Navy Reserve, retiring in 2003 as an Aviation Maintenance Limited Duty Officer.

Dylan Hever: A 2012 graduate of Hauppauge High School, Dylan began his career in law enforcement with the NYPD before returning home to serve the community through the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. He currently works as a Deputy Sheriff in the Community Relations Unit, building connections with residents and local organizations to strengthen trust and safety in our community.

In their conversation with Dr. Murphy, Frank and Dylan shared their personal journeys, the lessons they’ve learned through service, and what it truly means to be a Hometown Hero in Hauppauge. Their stories not only highlight the importance of dedication, resilience, and commitment but also serve as an inspiring example for our students and community members alike.

We are grateful to all the veterans and first responders who continue to give so much to our schools and community.
