On Friday, December 12, students from The Hauppauge Howler newspaper club, led by Ms. Sidden and Mrs. Harrison, partnered with the 5th Grade Video Production Club at Forest Brook Elementary, guided by Mrs. Karszen and Mrs. Barnett, for a special edition project of the school newspaper.
This exciting collaboration allowed middle school journalists to mentor younger students, sharing their interviewing, planning, and journalism skills. Fifth graders filmed and conducted interviews with the middle school reporters for a video segment, while the older students helped their elementary partners interview Forest Brook teachers, students, and staff for written pieces.
Working together, the clubs developed interview questions, collaborated on layouts in Canva, and edited their final drafts for publication in a special edition of the Hauppauge Howler.
Beyond the finished product, the experience fostered confidence, leadership, and meaningful connections between schools. Students gained valuable communication and teamwork skills—and discovered the joy of learning from one another—making this a memorable and inspiring project for all involved.
