Fifth Graders Explore the Great South Bay Aboard the Yankee III

Earlier this month, Bretton Woods Elementary School fifth graders took their learning out onto the water with an educational trip aboard the Yankee III charter boat. Students and parents enjoyed a day of discovery as they explored the Great South Bay and learned more about its marine environment.

Throughout the trip, students participated in hands-on activities, including seining, collecting bottom samples through dredging, and examining their findings under microscopes. They also had the opportunity to visit the captain in the wheelhouse and learn more about navigating the boat.

After enjoying lunch onboard, students tried their luck at fishing, with many excited to reel in a variety of catches! With beautiful weather and a friendly, welcoming crew, the trip offered a memorable opportunity to experience the Great South Bay firsthand while connecting classroom learning to the world around them.
