Bretton Woods Students Roll Out the Red Carpet for Sci-Fi Story Premiere

The Oscars came to Bretton Woods as students in Class 5-1 celebrated the culmination of their science fiction writing project with a Hollywood-inspired movie premiere complete with a red carpet, fresh popcorn, and a panel of "Hollywood Executives."

As part of the MyView curriculum, fifth-grade teachers Kristen Gonzalez and Jennifer Bizzarro guided students through an engaging interdisciplinary project that combined research, writing, creativity, and presentation skills. Working in pairs, students selected a real scientific concept, conducted research, and used their findings as the foundation for an original science fiction short story.

To bring their stories to life, students took their projects one step further by creating movie trailers based on their narratives. The trailers showcased their storytelling abilities while highlighting the scientific concepts that inspired their work.

During the special event, students pitched their trailers to a panel of "Hollywood Executives," who viewed each presentation and cast votes in several categories, including Best Story, Best Acting, Best Sound, Best Editing, and Best Set Design/Props.

The exciting experience provided students with an opportunity to apply their learning in a creative and authentic way while celebrating their hard work and imagination. From research and writing to production and presentation, the project demonstrated the many talents of Bretton Woods' young authors and filmmakers.
