Elementary Science Night

On Monday, March 30, members of the Science National Honor Society hosted their annual Elementary Science Night, welcoming students from across the district for an evening of hands-on learning and exploration. Organized by advisors Ms. Carolyn Heck and Mrs. Briana Becker, the event brought science to life through creativity, collaboration, and fun.

Elementary students had the opportunity to participate in more than 15 interactive stations led by high school students. Activities included Glitter Putty Polymers, Fingerprinting, Engineered Grabber Claws, Paper Airplanes, the Life Cycle of a Seed, Earthquake-Proof Towers, Candy Chemistry, UV Detection Bracelets, Chromatography Butterflies, LED Circuit Cards, Sundial Clocks, Mirror Writing, “How Many Drops?”, Hovercraft CDs, and Strong Shapes—each designed to introduce key scientific concepts in an engaging, hands-on way.

The event also featured special presentations from the High School FIRST Robotics Team. Advisors Mr. Sal Sparaciono, Ms. Mackenzie Minder, and Mr. Dennis Collins, along with student team members, showcased both last year’s and this year’s robots, explaining their design and functionality during live demonstrations.

Adding to the excitement, Mr. Jeffrey Yablon, high school biology teacher and Astronomy Club advisor, coordinated a visit from members of the Society of Amateur Astronomers. Guests shared stunning images captured through their personal telescopes and set up viewing stations in the courtyard, where students had the chance to observe Jupiter and the moon up close.

Elementary Science Night continues to be a highlight of the year—offering younger students an inspiring glimpse into the world of science while showcasing the leadership and passion of Hauppauge’s high school students.
