Community Guest Readers

On March 13, Bretton Woods Elementary School in the Hauppauge School District celebrated Community Guest Reader Day, welcoming local guests to share the joy of reading with students.

Guests ranging from the our Superintendent Dr. Murphy and district administrators to retirees and local officials visited classrooms throughout the school to read aloud to students. Children gathered on their classroom carpets to listen to the stories and then had the opportunity to talk with their guest readers about the books and their experiences.

Special guests included U.S. Senator Monica R. Martinez, Town of Smithtown Councilwoman Lisa Inzerillo, and Suffolk County Legislator Trish Bergin, who each spent time reading and engaging with students.

The event is part of Bretton Woods’ participation in PARP (Pick a Reading Partner), a statewide program that encourages families to read together and fosters a lifelong love of reading. Throughout the month, the school hosts a variety of activities to inspire students to read, with Community Guest Reader Day serving as one of the highlights of the celebration.

The event showcased the strong partnership between the school and the community while reinforcing the importance of literacy for students.
