Rare Disease Day

In honor of Rare Disease Day, students in Mrs. Kennedy’s class took part in a special lesson to learn about Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome.

The lesson was especially meaningful for the class because their classmate Brooke lives with aHUS. Brooke’s mom visited the classroom to speak with students and help them better understand the rare condition. Her visit gave students the opportunity to ask questions and learn how they can support and care for one another.

Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare and serious disease that affects the blood and kidneys. It can cause damage to red blood cells and impact kidney function.

The visit helped students gain a greater understanding of rare diseases while also reminding them of the importance of kindness, awareness, and supporting friends within their school community.
