BW Respect for All Week

Bretton Woods Elementary School observed its annual Respect for All Week and P.S. I Love You Week from February 9–13, reinforcing a school-wide commitment to respect, responsibility and compassion. The week focused on helping students understand how their words, actions and choices affect not only themselves, but also those around them.

Throughout the week, students and staff embraced important character traits including respect, kindness, honesty, friendship and compassion. The initiative supports the school’s goal of fostering a community where students treat one another with care, extend friendship and look for ways to make others feel valued.

Each day featured activities designed to encourage empathy and connection. Students participated in activities connected to the theme Be the Light, welcomed a special presentation from award-winning singer-songwriter Jared Campbell, and listened to a kindness-themed read-aloud presented by Dr. Smalley. The school community also worked together to support others by collecting canned food donations for a local food pantry.

The week concluded with students and staff wearing purple in recognition of P.S. I Love You Day, a mental health awareness initiative that encourages kindness, friendship and acceptance. The campaign began on Long Island and has grown into a nationwide movement promoting a welcoming environment for all.

Through these experiences, Bretton Woods students learned the importance of caring for one another and serving as positive influences within their school and community, continuing the school’s tradition of developing strong character and compassionate leaders.
