Third graders at Forest Brook Elementary School scrubbed in for a day of hands-on learning during “Operation: Text Features”! Each classroom transformed into a surgery center, complete with operation rooms where young surgeons were ready to get to work.
Dressed in their surgical gear, students carefully dissected magazines to locate and identify a variety of text features, including titles, charts, bold print, captions, maps, and more. Through this engaging activity, students learned how text features help readers navigate informational texts, locate important details, and better understand what they read.
The activity combined creativity, teamwork, and literacy skills for a memorable learning experience that brought reading strategies to life!
