Seventh Grade Artists Bring Self-Portraits to Life

Seventh grade artists are exploring identity and self-expression through a colorful Pop Art-inspired project that puts their own personalities at the center of the artwork.

As part of the project, students designed cartoon versions of themselves as paper dolls, incorporating their personal styles and interests into their designs. Each self-portrait was constructed from separate pieces—including the head, torso, arms, legs, hair, and accessories—with movable body parts incorporated into the designs.

After completing their artwork, students assembled and displayed their self-portraits, creating a colorful collection of unique characters. The project also introduced students to the possibilities of movement and animation as they experimented with their dolls’ movable parts.

Through this project, students had the opportunity to explore their creativity, make artistic choices, and have fun bringing their paper-doll self-portraits to life.
