Hauppauge High School has earned a place among the very best high schools in New York State, ranking No. 15 in New York and No. 1,683 nationally in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings.
The recognition is a point of pride for the entire Hauppauge community, but a ranking is ultimately a snapshot. The work that makes Hauppauge High School what it is happens every day, in classrooms and hallways, on athletic fields and stages, and throughout the many experiences that shape the lives of our students.
The recognition reflects the dedication of our students and staff, as well as the breadth of opportunities available to students at Hauppauge High School. Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs provide rigorous academic pathways, while Career and Technical Education offerings, electives, extracurricular activities, athletics, the arts and student leadership opportunities allow students to explore their interests, develop their strengths and prepare for life after graduation.
Equally important is the strong sense of community that exists within the high school. Teachers and staff work to know their students well and provide the support and encouragement they need to succeed. Programs and initiatives focused on student wellness, attendance, belonging and connection further strengthen the student experience, helping students feel supported both inside and outside the classroom.
The school’s continued growth has also been supported by the stability and long-term commitment of the Hauppauge Board of Education. Board President Dave Barshay, now serving in that role for the 13th consecutive year, and Vice President Rob Scarito, serving for the 12th consecutive year, have provided sustained leadership alongside their fellow trustees. That continuity has helped create the conditions for thoughtful, long-term planning and continued investment in programs, facilities and opportunities for students.
This commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in the district’s Hauppauge 2030 Strategic Plan, which focuses on Student Experience, Academic Excellence, and Community & Operations. While the district is proud of the progress already made, the goal is not simply to maintain the status quo. It is to continue looking ahead and finding ways to make the high school experience even stronger for every student.
Ultimately, the No. 15 ranking belongs to the entire Hauppauge community. It represents the collective effort of students, teachers, staff, administrators, families, the Board of Education and community members who all contribute to making Hauppauge High School the school that it is.
