Kicks for Cancer

On September 30, Hauppauge High School’s turf field was a sea of pink as students, staff, families, and community members came together for the 18th annual Kicks for Cancer event. This cherished tradition began in honor of Courtney Tomkin, a Hauppauge student who was diagnosed with brain cancer at just 17 years old. Inspired by Courtney’s courage, Alexis Gonzalez, then the girls varsity soccer goalkeeper, approached Coach Jesseca Kulesa with the idea of supporting Courtney and her family. What began as one heartfelt idea has grown into a powerful symbol of Hauppauge pride, compassion, and community spirit.

Beneath the glow of the Robert Druckenmiller Field lights, the boys and girls soccer teams took the field in pink uniforms to honor the cause. The boys secured a commanding 9–0 victory against Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School, while the girls battled hard in a close 0–1 game against Comsewogue High School. Throughout the evening, the Hauppauge kickline, color guard, and pep band kept the energy and school spirit soaring.

Beyond the games, the night was a true community celebration. Families enjoyed delicious food from local trucks, shopped vendor tents filled with gifts and treats, and joined in activities such as raffles and bounce houses. Kicks for Cancer merchandise was proudly worn across the crowd, showing unity and support.

Most importantly, the event raised funds for cancer research and the fight for a cure, ensuring that Courtney’s legacy continues to inspire hope, resilience, and togetherness across Hauppauge.
