Fourth graders at Bretton Woods Elementary School in the Hauppauge School District embarked on a virtual adventure across the United States. Using virtual reality goggles, students explored iconic American monuments such as Mount Rushmore, the Gateway Arch, the Lincoln Memorial, the Statue of Liberty and the Washington Monument without ever leaving their classroom. The experience was made possible through a collaboration with Educational Technology Coaches from Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

Using the immersive 360-degree technology, the students engaged with the landmarks they’ve been studying in social studies, getting a close-up view and a deeper understanding of these historic sites. Students were encouraged to follow their curiosity, making real-world connections to the landmarks they had studied in class.
