At its May 13 meeting, the Hauppauge Board of Education recognized outstanding contributions from staff and students.
Social worker Shannon Griffin was honored for her leadership of the high schoolās Natural Helpers Program and the Natural Helpers were recognized for being āChampions of Changeā by the New York State School Boards Association. The award was presented by Principal Joe Wieckhorst and NYSSBA Area 12 Director Cathy Romano.
Additionally, DECA advisor Frank Hufnagel and Director of CTE, Digital Learning and Innovation Leslie Brophy celebrated students Irina Bellassai and Allyson Winiarz for earning fifth place at the NY State Career Conference. Their winning Community Awareness Project titled, āYou Can Play with Usā, focused on inclusion and anti-bullying in a school setting. The Community Awareness Project uses the project management process to raise awareness for a community issue or cause. Their project was also presented at the DECA International Career Development Conference.
