Recognitions and Awards:
· Board of Education Achievement Awards: Dr. Crafa and Mr. Kiley received Level 1 Achievement Awards and Mrs. Macaluso received the Level 3 Mastery Award from NY State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) for their achievements in professional development as Board Members.
· All-State Student-Athletes: HHS students Brenna Conover and Katie Murphy were recognized for their outstanding achievements in soccer and cross country, respectively.
· Business Leadership Competition: HHS Business students were recognized for their outstanding achievements at the 12th Annual Business Leadership Competition:
o Olivia Sebade – 1st Place for Job Interviewo Catherine Federico – 2nd Place for Job Interview Life Skillso Marissa Ciminera and Braelyn Demitrieos – 2nd Place for Retail Marketing Teamo Mark Bacco – Honorable Mention for Job Interview Life SkillsPresentations:
· Languages Other Than English (LOTE)/Foreign Language in Elementary Schools (FLES): Director of LOTE Lillian Carey presented an overview of Hauppauge’s LOTE/FLES programs. FLES Teacher Ms. Campagnoli and 5th grade students from Bretton Woods provided an interactive demonstration of a FLES classroom lesson. Click here to view Ms. Carey’s presentation.
· Administrative Matters: All administrative matters were approved by the Board.
· Personnel Matters: The Board accepted the Personnel Action Report dated February 10, 2015.
· Business Matters: The Board received the monthly financial reports and approved the contracts included in the agenda. The Board approved a budget revision to increase revenue line “Other State Aid” by $100,000 and increase expenditure line “Building Repair HS Special Legislative Grant” by $100,000. These funds will be used to construct a Cosmetology classroom at the high school.
· Curriculum and Instructional Matters: The Board approved new textbooks for French classes in grades 6-10; overnight field trips; and the recommendations of the Committee on Special Education.
· Policies: The Board approved revisions to the following policies:
o 5100 – Student Attendanceo 5152 – Admission of Non-Resident Studentso 5152.1 – Admission of Foreign Studentso 5410 – Concussion Managemento 5421 – Administering Epinephrine in Emergency Situations
· Next Meeting: The next Board of Education Meeting will be a Business and Budget Meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. in the James Baxter Board Room at Whiporwil School.
