Elementary Science Students Compete and Excel at Brookhaven National Lab Science Fair

On Friday afternoon Brookhaven National Lab held a virtual ceremony to announce the winners of their elementary science fair.  Students that won first place from their own school science fairs throughout Suffolk County were able to enter.  We had 18 K-5 submissions from each of the 3 elementary schools and were allowed to enter 2 projects from the 6th grade.  Hauppauge had a strong showing.  Here are the winners:
Kindergarten:  First place, Violet Radonis from Pines Elementary "Which Mask You Ask?"
First Grade: Honors Mention, Taran Sathish Kumar from Bretton Woods Elementary "Scratch and Slide"
6th Grade: Honorable Mention:   Akhil Grandhi from Hauppauge Middle School, "Which fruit or vegetable oxidizes the most in varied temperatures?"
6th Grade: First place: Patrick Terzella from Hauppauge Middle School, "Too loud or not too loud"
The only two projects that were recognized for 6th grade both came from our middle school!
Congratulations to these students!
