Each year, Hauppauge High School hosts a Distinguished Alumni Speaker. This year, we are proud to announce that Tom Postilio of the Class of 1988 will speak at this year’s Class of 2019 Graduation.
Tom Postilio has been named by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top real estate agents in the country, well-known for brokering high-end, luxury real estate to celebrity clientele and having starred on the hit HGTV reality television show, Selling New York. But long before that, an adoration for Frank Sinatra, and the relationships cultivated at Hauppauge High School, led Tom on a journey he couldn’t have predicted when he was only 18 years old.
His family moved from Ozone Park, Queens to Hauppauge in 1986, just before Tom’s junior year, and he graduated from Hauppauge High School in 1988. He became a fan of Frank Sinatra at an early age and entered talent shows singing songs made famous by the legendary crooner, with a dream of becoming a singer himself. During his days at Hauppauge High School, Postilio entered and won the Newsday Teen Talent Showcase in 1987 and was featured in the New York Times when he was 19 years old. He graduated from Suffolk County Community College with an associate degree in 1990, but opted to halt his college education at the age of 20 when he was invited to tour worldwide as the featured vocalist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and sang before 18,000 people at the Hollywood Bowl. For the next twelve years, Postilio toured actively singing songs from the Great American Songbook, performing in such respected venues as New York City’s Algonquin Hotel, Tavern on the Green and The Rainbow Room, and in showrooms from Atlantic City to Las Vegas, as well as Long Island’s very own Westbury Music Fair.
After a performance at the Algonquin Hotel’s Oak Room, the New York Times said, “[Postilio’s] carefully syncopated phrasing and exuberance suggest a softened echo of the late-50’s Sinatra in his swinging mode.” Postilio recorded two albums titled, What Matter Most and Dream. Over the years, he appeared on The Today Show, PBS’s Great Performances and Showbiz Tonight. Before transitioning into the real estate business, his last professional singing engagement was in the Off-Broadway hit musical, Our Sinatra.
He entered the real estate profession in 2003, and over the last 16 years has sold over $2 billion worth of real estate, being ranked among the top real estate agents in New York City, and the country. Tom Postilio and his husband, Mickey Conlon, now partners in business and in life, consistently rank among the top teams at Douglas Elliman, the No. 1 real estate brokerage in New York. Company chairman Howard Lorber stated that, “Tom & Mickey are two of the brightest superstars in the business.” They are known for working with celebrity and high-net-worth clients, including Carl Icahn, Jim Carrey, Liza Minnelli, Barry Manilow, Joan Collins, Michael Feinstein, Lady Gaga, and David Sanborn, among others.
Postilio has appeared on numerous television shows as a real estate commentator and host, including Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, The Real Housewives of New York, CBS’s Living Large, Fox’s Good Day New York, NBC’s Open House, ABC’s Good Morning America, and CNBC’s Mega Homes Report. In print, he has been profiled by The New York Times, New York Daily News, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The Hollywood Reporter, and a variety of real estate trade publications.
Recently, Mr. Postilio and his husband built a home in Nissequogue, returning closer to his Hauppauge roots.
We look forward to Tom Postilio’s visit and his address to the Class of 2019!
