GIRLS VARSITY GOLF TEAM COMPETES IN SECTION XI CHAMPIONSHIP AND PLACES 4TH! SENIOR, COLLEEN BUCKLEY IS OFF TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS ON JUNE 1ST AND 2ND!
The Girls Golf team competed in the Section XI Championship on May 20th and 21st at Middle Island Country Club. The Eagles earned a spot at the championship after a 7-3 season finish, beating the previously undefeated Smithtown West in their last home match at Stonebridge Golf Club on May 9th.
This was the team’s first time competing in the team championship. On day 1 the team was led by senior captain Colleen Buckley and sophomore Madison Amico who shot an 87 and 101 respectively. The team’s performance earned them a spot in the team competition during the second day. Only four teams of the twelve competing were invited back for the second day.
The team finished fourth in the team competition after battling tough winds and faster greens on Day 2. Colleen Buckley finished 4th in the county with a Day 2 score of 85 and a two day total of 172. Buckley, who is playing golf for Union College next fall, will advance to the NYSPHSAA Championship at Deerfield Country Club in Brockport, New York on June 1st and June 2nd. This is Colleen’s second time making the All-County team and competing at the state competition. Both Colleen Buckley and sophomore Olivia Accardi achieved All-County honors this season, placing in the top 12 in League 4.
