Hauppauge's Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Choir and Concert Choir Score Gold
Hauppauge High School’s Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir and Chamber Choir all achieved a Gold Rating at the 2017 NYSSMA Majors Festival. The Chamber Choir received a Level VI Gold with Distinction; the Chamber Orchestra received a Level V Gold with Distinction; the Concert Choir received a Level V Gold; and the Wind Ensemble received a Level V Gold.
NYSSMA Majors is the most competitive evaluation system that there is for music ensembles in New York State. A NYSSMA Gold Rating is awarded to organizations that demonstrate an outstanding level of technical and artistic skill in: tone, intonation, balance, technique, diction, accuracy/execution, interpretation, discipline and appropriate choice of music. “A gold rating is not easy to achieve, and is never simply ‘gifted’ to an ensemble just for attending the festival,” described Dr. Laura Landor Stiegelmaier, Hauppauge’s director of Fine and Performing Arts. “It is saved for the premiere ensembles in New York State, and I am thrilled to say that Hauppauge is home to four of these premiere ensembles.”
Dr. Landor Stiegelmaier continued: “Although it was our High School students who performed at the NYSSMA Majors Festival, heartfelt thanks go out to all of our K-12 music teachers for crafting the foundation upon which this accomplishment was built. It takes a village; and according to NYSSMA, our village is made of gold!”
