Helping the Environment
Third
Graders in Mrs. Trapanotto’s class are helping the environment in two important
ways. They recycle redeemable bottles
and cans, and use the money they collect to help rehabilitate sea animals
through the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation. As of December, the class has already raised
enough money to adopt two Harbor Seals that are currently in rehabilitation at
the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead.
Adoption donations to the Riverhead Foundation help defray the cost of
food and medicines the rescued animals need to regain their health and be
released back to the wild. Through this
experience, the students are learning that even children can make a difference
in the world!
