Water Quality
Our school district completed its required triennial lead-in-water testing in early 2024 as part of New York State regulations designed to ensure safe drinking water in schools. Testing was conducted at all district buildings on water outlets used for drinking and food preparation, including sinks, fountains, and bottle-filling stations.
Hauppauge completed this testing well in advance of the required timeline and tested to a stricter standard. As a reminder, the New York State Department of Health lowered the action level for lead in school drinking water from 15 parts per billion (ppb) to 5 ppb, and Hauppauge tested to this lower threshold.
The district has already taken corrective action, including replacing fixtures, installing appropriate filters, and completing follow-up testing to confirm that water quality meets safety requirements before outlets are returned to service. Any outlet that has not yet been remediated or retested remains offline. Drinking water that is currently available to students is considered safe and meets all state requirements. These steps are part of the district’s ongoing commitment to student and staff safety.
Families and community members are encouraged to review the full testing reports available below for detailed results by building and outlet. The district remains committed to transparency and will continue to share updates as work progresses.
