About the World Languages Department

The Hauppauge World Language department offers opportunities to study French, German, and Spanish beginning in the 6th grade. We strongly encourage all of our students to continue their language journey throughout all four years of high school so that they have as many language learning opportunities that will help them be successful in their post-secondary experiences.

The New York State Learning Standards for Languages (adopted in 2021), aligned the standards with both the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and high-leverage practices.  They represent what students should know and be able to do in the languages and cultures which they study. These standards establish an inextricable link between communication and culture, which is applied in making connections and comparisons and in using this competence to be part of local and global communities.
