We are excited to have our students be active participants in research projects based on National History Day (NHD).   National History Day allows history to come alive with real-world experiences. Students explore local, state, national, and world history through a topic that relates to an annual theme, which requires students to think critically and determine their topics' significance over time. As an inquiry-based, experiential method of teaching social studies, History Day enables students to examine a smaller event, person, or place in history and relate it to the national or international story. Through this avenue of primary and secondary research, students come to their own conclusions about the historical significance and gain a greater understanding of why learning about history is valuable.

This year’s theme (2016-17) Taking a Stand in History

Students in grades 7-11 and all students enrolled in 12th-grade Advanced Placement/IB courses in the high school will participate in a research project based on NHD.   Any student who wishes to complete a project who is not currently enrolled in these courses may do so through the History Club.   The Hauppauge High Schools has an active history club under the leadership of Mrs. Robbins.
