About the Library Media Center
What time is the library open?
The library is open from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
What kind of materials are available in the library?
We have many different resources for the students to use. These include: fiction and nonfiction books, magazines, reference materials, audio books and access to computer databases.
How often does a student go to the library?
Students visit the library for a scheduled class once every six-day cycle. All classes are forty minutes long.
What do they do in the library?
During library classes, we pick out books, read wonderful stories and have lessons on literature, library, technology and research skills.
What are student borrowing privileges?
In kindergarten and first grade, a student can take out one book each cycle. Second through fifth grade, students can take out two books and one magazine each cycle. Students can renew books as often as they need them.
What is your overdue policy?
A student can not borrow anything from the library if they have an overdue item.
What happens if an item is lost or damaged?
If this happens then there are two things that you can do. You can either pay for the item or replace it. We will send home a notice with the price of the book. We can only accept checks made out to Hauppauge Public Schools.
What happens if I find the book after it’s paid for?
You have until the end of the current school year to get your money back. Please contact the library for more details.
What are Open Library times?
Generally, the library is open to all students during the school day in-between scheduled class visits.
How do you go about ordering books, etc. for the library?
We are very choosy about the materials we order. All items have either been reviewed in a professional library journal, examined in person, or suggested by teachers. All items are purchased to enhance the students' love of reading, support our school's curriculum, and to enrich the library environment.
