World Languages

  • "The limits of my language mean the limits of my world"

    Ludwig Wittgenstein

Knowledge of more than one language bridges cultural barriers and opens up a world of social and economic opportunities. In response to the district's commitment to world languages, the World Language Department will be exploring ideas for an after-school program to continue to provide Hauppauge elementary students with an opportunity to learn another language.

Currently, at the secondary level, the Hauppauge World Language department offers opportunities to study French, German, and Spanish beginning in the 6th grade. Students typically take the FLACS Checkpoint A Exam at the end of 8th grade and the FLACS Checkpoint B Exam at the completion of level 3 of the language. Post Checkpoint B offerings include honors and non-honors level courses and the option of taking IB Language courses in one of our three languages: French, German, and Spanish.
