Mrs. Andrea Darbee

Dear Hauppauge Families,

For the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of serving the Hauppauge High School community as an English teacher, coach, and club advisor.  It is with great enthusiasm that I approach my new position as Assistant Principal.  At Hauppauge, we value respect, learning, and collaboration. I am grateful to partner with our exceptional teaching staff in mentoring students to become thoughtful and engaged citizens.

A graduate of Smithtown High School, I attended Vassar College where I earned a Bachelors of Arts in English and attained my ELA teaching certification.  In addition, I hold a Masters of Arts in English and Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership from Stony Brook University.  As a classroom teacher here, I have been lucky to teach so many of our current students’ brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends.  I have served as a board member for the Long Island Writing Project and currently am the Metro-Area Vice President for the Guild of IB Schools of the Northeast.

The high school years are formative. Students learn much about themselves and the world from the courses they take and activities they choose.  I encourage all students to get involved and try new things in high school.  Maybe you’ll discover a previously undetected passion.  Remember, knowledge is power, but it is also pleasure.  So read, think, question, reflect.  Collaborate, discuss, research, write. Students who come to school open-minded and inquisitive can find joy in the everyday!

Sincerely,

Andrea Darbee
