Welcome to Mrs. Meccariello's Page!
My name is Mrs. Meccariello and I'm a reading teacher at Bretton Woods, Forest Brook, and The Pines. Prior to my employment in the Hauppauge School District, I taught first grade for several years. Reading has always been a passion of mine since beginning my career in education. My goal as an educator is to create life long learners through the love of reading. I believe that reading should not be presented as a chore but offered as a gift. It is important to me that my students are motivated, engaged, and confident. I enjoy incorporating targeted engaging instruction to all of my students and love to watch them progress throughout the year. My favorite book is Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. This book assists in boosting students confidence. I love reading this book on the first day of school to remind students that although we may feel different, we are all special in our own unique ways!

The mission of the Hauppauge Elementary Reading Department is to provide the opportunity for our students to become readers, writers and lifelong learners in a safe, nurturing learning environment guided by the principles of balanced literacy and aligned with the New York State Standards. By using a variety of genres it is our goal to prepare all students to comprehend and analyze complex text and develop a love of literacy.
