Swimming Eagles Make a Splash at the States
Led by Coach Rich Lionetti, Trenton Burr, Jack Casey, Aidan McMenamy and Jordan Nielsen competed in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Swimming & Diving Championships at the Nassau Aquatics Center in Hempstead, New York.
The four swimmers competed as a team in the 200-Medley Relay. They placed 6th and took home All-State Honors. Trenton Burr, Jack Casey, Aidan McMenamy, and Jordan Nielsen took 3rd in the Counties with a time of 1:37.08 in the 200-Medley Relay.
Jack Casey placed 2nd in 100-yard Breaststroke and was named All-State. The margin of difference between 1st and 2nd place was one tenth of a second. His time of 55.19 is a new Hauppauge High School record. Jack broke his own record that he set while winning the Suffolk County Championship in the Breaststroke with a time of 55.34. This was an automatic All-American time. Mr. Casey is ranked 1st in Breaststroke in the state at this time. He finished 2nd last year as well.
Trenton Burr finished in 9th place in the 200-yard Freestyle and 3rd place in the 100-yard Backstroke. Trenton also took home All-State Honors. Mr. Burr is the Suffolk County Champion in 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 51.26. At the Counties, he finished 4th in the 200-yard Freestyle.
Sophomore Sean Rorke finished 3rd in Diving at the Counties. Sean broke two Hauppauge High School records. He now holds the new Hauppauge 11 dive record with a score of 394.65. Mr. Rorke also broke the school record for 6 dives with a score of 257.99.
The future looks bright for the Varsity Swim Team as all but one of the champion aquatic athletes will be returning. Aidan McMenamy will be graduating this spring and will be attending a New York college next fall where he will be on a Pre-Med track toward becoming a doctor.
