Say it, Fight it, Cure it! Courtney Tomkin......Forever in our Hearts!
Hauppauge High School Health Teacher and Girls Varsity Coach Ms. Jesseca Kulesa has been organizing an annual fundraiser for the last ten years called "Kicks for Cancer."
Ms. Kulesa talks about how the event got started saying, "Kicks for Cancer began at Hauppauge High School in 2008 as a way to honor and support Courtney Tomkin, a junior that was diagnosed with brain cancer the previous spring. The summer after Courtney was diagnosed, Hauppauge Girls Varsity Soccer Goalie Alexis Gonzalez came to me asking how we could put something together to help her and her family. I already had the idea of having a breast cancer game, as two of my aunts were recently diagnosed. It was during that conversation that the two ideas merged and Kicks for Cancer was born.
After we make this year's donations, we should surpass the $300,000 donation mark! This event has become incredibly successful growing more and more each year with the help of our entire Hauppauge soccer family. The money raised by the event is split amongst The Making Headway Foundation, The American Cancer Society, The American Lung Association, The Make a Wish Foundation, The Courtney Tomkin Courage Scholarship and local families that may be suffering with a loss or diagnosis of cancer.
People can check our Facebook page 'Kicks for Cancer' to find out more about the event and how to help." https://www.facebook.com/Kicks-For-Cancer-108272725903191/
