    Recognition and Awards: Performance by the Hauppauge School District String Ensemble.

    Presentation:

    o   Dr. Murphy and Mr. Tasman presented to the Board and the community an overview of the 2016/17 school year. The presentation included goals, summer work, Teachers College, STEAM, hardware tools, iPad initiative, the Instructional Trinity and professional Development. The presentation concluded with information about staffing increase to meet State mandates, class size trends and middle school enrollment projections.

    o   Mr. Stucchio presented an overview of the finances within the Curriculum portion of the budget.

    Trip to Italy: The rescinding of the theatre trip to Italy was approved by the Board.

    Presentation: Mr. Stucchio presented to the Board of Education and community a breakdown of general support and an explanation of expenses. Mr. Stucchio also covered employee benefits, employer contribution rates, Social Security, workers’ compensation and other benefits as well as information regarding community services and the potential capital reserve fund.

    o   Safety Committee: Mr. Buscarino reported that the committee discussed securing a facility in case the District would have to move an entire building. Interior/exterior numbering of windows will soon begin and take six months to complete. There have been two official and two unofficial K9 searches. Next meeting is May 6th.

    o   Advocacy Committee: No update.

    o   Bond Committee: The committee met and discussed projects regarding capital reserve fund and the budget for next year.

    o   Superintendent Search Committee: Mr. Barshay disbanded the Committee.

    o   Field Use Committee: Due to conflicts the next meeting has been postponed until April.

    - Chris Mauriello: Suffolk County Individual Champion (152 lbs.), All-State, and 4th Place NYS Wrestling Championships.

    - Danny Mauriello: All-County (113 lbs.) and 4th place Suffolk County Championships.

    - Ben Tepperman: Suffolk County Runner-Up (126 lbs.), All-State, and 5th Place NYS Wrestling Championships.

    - John Munro: All-County (285 lbs.) and 3rd Place Suffolk County Championships.

    o   2016/17 Proposed Budget: Revenue, Taxes-Tax Cap – Mr. Stucchio presented to the Board and community an overview of the proposed 2016/17 budget. The presentation covered the budget increase, levy increase, and the current budget deficit. Mr. Stucchio also covered State Aid, GEA (Gap Elimination Adjustment) and expressed to the community that a prepared letter advocating the complete restoration of the GEA is available to send to our elected state representatives on the district website.

    o   Code of Conduct Committee – Next meeting will be held in April.

    o   Safety Committee – The committee discussed Forest Brook parking lot, NARCAN policy review, drones and hover boards, Department of Health inspection, and windows and doors.

    o   Advocacy Committee – The Board attended the Suffolk County School Superintendents Association advocacy workshop.

    o   Organizational Planning Committee – Committee should be removed from future agendas.

    o   Bond Committee – Facilities were inspected and will meet soon regarding recommendations about capital reserve funds.

    o   Field Use Committee – Meeting was on February 3rd where they discussed barrier/privacy issues and the committee will receive more data from the Hauppauge Soccer League.

    2015/16 Tax Levy:  The Board agreed to adopt a budget of $105,393,040 for the 2015/16 school year and $81,385,340 Tax Levy.

    Dual Tax Rate:  Dual Tax Rate matters were approved by the Board.

    Independent Auditor’s Reports: The Independent Auditor’s Report was accepted by the Board.

    Audit Committee: Christopher Marchese was appointed Community Member from 10/21/15 to 6/30/18.

    Policies: All policies were approved by the Board.

    Discussion Matters:

       o   No action was taken.

    New Business:

       o   91% of football helmets in the district are 4 and 5-star rated and lower level helmets are not currently being used. These four retired helmets are being replaced.

       o   Head lice protocol.

       o   The Commissioner has asked all Superintendents to use Toolkit to educate communities about the New York State Assessments and opting out.

    Recognition and Awards:

       o   National History Day: Elise Zhao was presented a certificate from Doreen Gordon and the Board of Education where she placed seventh in the nation for her website on Louis Armstrong.

       o   Mildred E. Smith Historical Essay Competition WinnerNicole Zito was presented a certificate from Doreen Gordon and the Board of Education for her submission to the Smithtown Historical Society, from which Nicole won a $1000 scholarship. 

       o   National Merit Scholarship: High School senior, Reah Vasilakopoulos, is a semifinalist in the 61st Annual National Merit Scholarship Competition.

       o   Patriot Month Walk: Students, staff, and community participated in the First Annual Patriot Month Walk by cumulatively walking 425 miles and raising $2500 for the FealGood Foundation which provides for the first responders of 9/11 and their families.

    Administrative Matters:  All administrative matters were approved by the Board.

    Personnel Matters:  All personnel matters were approved by the Board.

    Business Matters:  All business matters were approved by the Board.

    Discussion Matters:

       o   Board member, Stacey Weisberg, was selected to be the Voting Delegate for NYSSBA Annual Meeting.

       o   The Board of Education conducted a discussion and voted accordingly on the NYSSBA Amendments to the Proposed Bylaws and Resolutions which will be voted upon at the NYSSBA Annual Meeting.

     

    New Business:

       o   Tax rate and impact due to Veterans’ tax exemption.

       o   Repairs to the electric sign.

       o   Contract for cleaning Legionella bacteria from water cooling tower.

          o  New Reading Teacher: The Board of Education approved Gina Romuno, a Hauppauge High School graduate, as the new reading teacher for the High School.

          o  NYSSMA All-State Festival: Sarah Juliano, Maria Johnsen, Noelle Roth, Elise Zhao, Harrison Smith, and Madden Klass will be representing Hauppauge at this event in November. 

    Administrative Matters:  All administrative matters were approved by the Board.

    Personnel Matters:  All personnel matters were approved by the Board.

    Business Matters:  All business matters were approved by the Board.

    Curriculum and Instructional Matters:  All curriculum and instructional matters were approved by the Board.

    Budget Revision: The Board of education agreed to pay the remaining principal of the Energy Performance Contract thus reducing school district debt and saving $65,100.00.

    Policies:  No action was taken.

          o   Background Checks and Fingerprinting

    New Business:

          o  All nurses were informed of new vaccine requirements for New York State at Superintendent’s Conference Day.

          o  Breakdown of class sizes.

          o  There will be added security in the Elementary and Middle schools during September 10thprimary voting.
