Hauppauge Student Places in Top 10 at National History Competition
Doreen Gordon, Hauppauge School District’s Director of Social Studies and Business announced that Elise Zhao’s website on Louis Armstrong placed 7th in the nation at the National History Day Competition in College Park, Maryland. More than 50 websites were entered from the United States and territories. Social Studies Teachers Ellen Robbins and Stacey Lasurdo and Librarian Brenda DePetris assisted Elise with her research and website.
Elise had to compete at the local, regional and New York State level to qualify for nationals. “Elise is the first student from Hauppauge to place in the top 10 on the national level,” stated Mrs. Gordon. “This is an incredible accomplishment. The Social Studies Department and the entire Hauppauge School District are very proud of her efforts.”
