Mock Trial Club members were introduced to basic trial techniques, simplified rules of evidence, the importance of effective communication and team work. From September through December, the students served as lawyers and witnesses in both criminal and civil trials. They then tried out for Hauppauge’s Competition Team in December and participated in the countywide Mock Trial Competition, with the winning team moving on to the New York State finals. Teams of 6 to 12 students competed four times in a multiple-elimination round tournament. The official case – written by the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA’s) Law, Youth and Citizenship Committee – was released in December, and the multiple-elimination rounds ran from February through March. The playoff rounds were held at the end of March and April with the statewide competition taking place in Albany in May. The club's advisers are Mr. Harry Shehigian and Ms. Adi Zimmerman.

HHS fielded a Mock Trial Club Team this academic year. “A range of students from grades 9-12 participated in the Club and eventually tried out for the Competition Team,” stated Club Co-Adviser Harry Shehigian. “Our Team was competitive right from the beginning. Two of our students even were selected to compete at the NYSBA Mock Trial Summer Institute at Lake George this year.”
