MS Tech Team Make Impressive First Showing at Competition
Hauppauge Middle School VEX Robotics Team took 6th place in their first-ever attempt at the recent Southern New York VEX Robotics Competition Qualifier held in Glen Cove.
Students on the VEX team designed and built their own robot using the VEX kit and competed against 15 other teams in a very intense and exciting event. The kit was acquired with a grant from the Northrop Grumman Foundation, which was secured by Technology Education Teacher and Robotics Coach Maryann Mullen
The object of the VEX “Skyrise” competition was to score the most points during a match by pushing and lifting plastic cubes around the 12’ x 12’ “Skyrise” field. The HMS team's student-designed robot could push numerous cubes around, and it had “claws” that gripped a cube and lifted it up in order to stack it on a post via remote control. There were a number of matches and the team's robot went claw-to-claw with the other 15 teams accumulating points and match wins. At the end of the tournament, there was a nail-biting elimination round.
Team members include: Owen Kells, Anten Manuuel, Team Captain Samuel Dasari, Andrew Ge, Rainer Schubert, Ben Simon, Brandon Dennis, Srikar Konakanchi, Bailey Orehosky, Ritvik Chilakamarthy, Luis Ramirez
