Hauppauge Middle School Science Olympiad Team Ranks in Top 5% of New York State Teams
Hauppauge Middle School is pleased to announce that its Science Olympiad Team ranked in the top five percent of the teams that recently participated in the New York State Science Olympiad competition, which was held in East Syracuse, New York. The competition judged pairs of students who participated in 25 different events spanning all of the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines.
Some of the Hauppauge Team’s highest achievements were in the Fossils, Invasive Species, Rube Goldberg and Air Trajectory events. The following students are the highest ranking Science Olympiad Team members in Hauppauge Middle School history: Ritvik Chilakamarthy, Tyler Xu, Daniel Panaro, Sai Munagavalasa, Sophie Epstein, Jalaj Mehta, Sarah Shaik, Rebecca Klayman, Alex Vasilakopoulos, Srikar Konakanchi, Anten Manuuel, Emma Vasilakopoulos, Pritham Katla, Vedant Choudary and Pranav Lanka.
Technology Teacher Maryann Mullen and Science Teacher Sheilah Schumann coached their team of 15 students to secure a spot in the New York State Competition by placing 4th in the Suffolk County Regional Science Olympiad where they competed against 47 other teams. According to their coaches – who also received the Outstanding Coach Award – “the students were very excited to have the opportunity to participate in New York State Science Olympiad competition.” They worked extremely hard over the past few months to prepare themselves to do well in the competition.”
“Congratulations to all of our Science Olympiad Team participants,” stated Robert Wankmuller, Hauppauge School District’s director of Science, Technology and Research. “We are very proud of their achievements and know that each student did their very best to represent themselves and the Hauppauge community.”
